Haunted House writing prompts

A haunted house is a slow argument. Pick a prompt, name the previous owner in the first round, and let the house win on points.

  1. The new owners find a list of house rules taped to the inside of every cupboard.
  2. Every door in the house leads somewhere different at night.
  3. The estate agent forgot to mention the basement was the previous owner.
  4. A family inherits a house and the housekeeper, who does not appear to be paid.
  5. The renovation reveals a sealed room with a child's bed and a kettle still warm.
  6. Every photograph on the mantelpiece is of a family the new owners have never met but recognise.
  7. The new tenant's dog will not enter the kitchen.
  8. The house has more rooms than the floor plan.
