Horror writing prompts

Good horror is patience. Don't rush the monster — let the room get colder line by line as each writer adds the next small wrong thing.

  1. The new baby will only sleep if the parents leave the front door unlocked.
  2. A village wakes up to find every mirror replaced overnight.
  3. The family dog starts politely refusing to enter one specific room.
  4. A grief counsellor's voicemail keeps filling up with calls from clients who died years ago.
  5. The community pool drained itself in the night and there is a door at the bottom.
  6. Every photo taken in the new house has one extra child in it.
  7. A weather presenter starts predicting deaths in the long-range forecast.
  8. Someone is leaving small wooden carvings of the family on the porch each morning.
