Romance writing prompts

Romance lives in the small stuff. Use a prompt as your meet-cute, then let each writer add a glance, a misread text, or a confession the other won't hear for three chapters.

  1. Two rival wedding planners are forced to plan each other's weddings.
  2. A widower's grief support group keeps trying to set him up with the group leader.
  3. A bakery owner gets the same anonymous love letter every Tuesday for a year.
  4. Two people swap suitcases at the airport and start texting using each other's phones.
  5. A radio DJ realises the caller dedicating a song every Friday is her ex.
  6. A divorced couple gets stuck on a long-haul flight in adjacent seats.
  7. An author's biggest critic turns out to be her childhood pen pal.
  8. Two strangers keep meeting in lifts and pretend not to recognise each other.
